The client project lifecycle in six stages: what must exist at each one

Obsidian 1.14 is out: what changes when you manage client projects
Obsidian 1.14, public since October 5, 2026, adds a Kanban view to Bases and a Group menu that orders, hides and adds groups in every view, so a board of projects by stage no longer needs a plugin. It also opens Markdown files from outside the vault on desktop and brings Quick Capture to iOS 26.

A vault of files or a subscription tool for client work: what you gain and what you give up
Over three years, a $15-a-month tool costs a solo freelancer $540, while an Obsidian vault costs $144 of official sync plus the time to build it: at $90 an hour, the saving is gone after 4.4 hours of setup. In exchange, your client records stay readable without any account, but you lose client access, reminders and real-time teamwork.
